The story behind Sustainfind
The idea started with a simple question: how far has the food on my plate actually travelled? What began as a concept for a documentary exploring food provenance and carbon footprint awareness evolved into something more practical — a platform that doesn’t just highlight the problem, but offers the solution.
We realised that while public awareness of food miles and environmental impact is growing, there was no single place where consumers could discover local producers, understand the environmental cost of their choices, and take meaningful action. Farm shops, market stalls, artisan dairies, craft breweries, and independent growers exist in every corner of the country — but finding them means knowing where to look.
Sustainfind brings them all together.
What we do
A directory you can trust
We maintain a growing directory of independent food and drink producers, searchable by location, category, and sustainability credentials. Every listing is reviewed before going live.
Food miles made visible
Every producer profile shows the distance from their location to you, alongside the supermarket average for that food category. When your local cheesemaker is 8 miles away and the supermarket equivalent has travelled 350 miles, the choice becomes obvious.
Discovery, not transactions
We don’t hold stock, process payments, or handle deliveries. When you find a producer you’d like to support, we link you directly to their shop. Our role is connecting you with the people who make your food.

The concept began as a documentary idea following natural foods from production to plate, showing food mileage and highlighting the carbon footprint of consumer food choices.
From TV to digital
When traditional media channels proved inaccessible, the vision was adapted into a digital platform that could achieve the same educational mission at scale while providing a practical solution.

Sustainfind launches with a focused pilot in Nottinghamshire, building producer density in one county before expanding across the UK. Every county, one at a time.

Our commitment to transparency
We operate with the same transparency we ask of our producers. Our food miles data is sourced from DEFRA, HMRC trade statistics, and published research, and our methodology is openly documented.
We don’t make environmental claims we can’t back up, and we acknowledge the limitations of food miles as a single measure of sustainability. We’re honest about what we know and clear about what we’re still learning.
