Leicestershire's drinks scene spans centuries of brewing heritage and a thriving modern craft movement. Everards has been brewing in Leicester since 1849, now in its sixth generation, with a state-of-the-art brewery and Beer Hall near Fosse Park. But the county's most remarkable brewing story belongs to Mount St Bernard Abbey near Coalville, where Cistercian monks produce Tynt Meadow, the UK's only recognised Trappist ale and the first beer brewed by English monks since the Reformation.
The craft scene is equally strong. Charnwood Brewery in Loughborough is a family-run operation producing award-winning cask and keg beer since 2014. Belvoir Brewery brews traditional real ales in the Vale of Belvoir. Round Corner Brewing operates from a taproom in Melton Mowbray's Stockyard. The distillery scene includes Burleighs Gin, made with foraged Charnwood Forest botanicals, Two Birds Spirits handcrafting small-batch gin from a bespoke copper still in Market Harborough, and Brentingby Gin with its cocktail bar inside Melton Mowbray cattle market.
