For England s smallest county, Rutland has a remarkable drinks scene. The Grainstore Brewery in Oakham is the largest brewery in the smallest county, housed in a converted railway grain warehouse since 1995. Its Nip was awarded Overall Champion Cask Beer at the 2023 SIBA Business Awards, and Rutland Bitter is one of only three ales in the country to hold a Protected Geographical Indication.
The county boasts two vineyards. Mallard Point in Essendine is a family-run single estate vineyard and distillery producing award-winning gin and local wines. The Rutland Vineyard near Ketton sits on Jurassic limestone soil and produces award-winning English wines with tours and tastings. Blue Aurora makes wine from 100% English blueberries grown on a local farm.
Multum Gin Parvo takes its name from the county motto and produces gin flavours inspired by Rutland, including Strawberry and Rutland Lavender. Manton Hollow Cidery makes small-batch craft cider from local apples. Two Chimps Coffee is a specialist single-origin roastery near Oakham with tailored subscriptions.
