Leicestershire has one of the strongest farm shop cultures in England, and many of those shops are anchored by farms that grow their own produce. Farndon Fields in Market Harborough started as a small veg stall on a 250-acre fruit and vegetable farm in 1983 and has grown into one of the country's most respected farm shops, growing over 40 types of fruit and vegetables in fields half a mile from the shop. Pick's Organic Farm at Barkby Thorpe has been a family organic operation since 1999, offering seasonal boxes and farm gate sales. Cattows Farm near Coalville covers 300 acres and offers PYO soft fruit, asparagus, and pumpkins from land the Ludlam family has farmed since 1899.
