Shropshire has one of the most historically significant brewing scenes in England. Three Tuns Brewery in Bishop Castle has been brewing continuously since 1642, making it the oldest licensed brewery in Britain. The brewery still uses part of the original building and the Three Tuns Inn next door serves the ales. Hobsons Brewery in Cleobury Mortimer won CAMRA Supreme Champion Beer of Britain for their Mild and now sells to over 150 local pubs. Salopian Brewery near Shrewsbury produces over 150 barrels a week of award-winning ales including Shropshire Gold.
Ludlow Brewing Company operates from a converted railway shed beside Ludlow Station, using local hops and doubling as a pub and events venue. Joules in Market Drayton revived a brewery originally founded in 1779. Clun Brewery has won gold medals for Sabrina and Red Dawn. Ludlow Distillery produces award-winning gin on the Oakly Park estate.
